The ninth season premier of CBS sitcom ‘Two and a Half Men’ has proved an astounding success, setting a ratings record for the show.

Monday night’s episode, which saw the official introduction of Ashton Kutcher, brought in 27.7 million viewers making it the highest rated show of the night, and the most popular episode in the show’s history.

Charlie Sheen’s alter ego, Charlie Harper was killed off after being hit by a Paris subway train, enabling Kutcher’s introduction as billionaire, Walden Schmidt.

The high ratings are double that previously achieved by Charlie Sheen in season eight of the show, disproving Sheen’s previous claims in an expletive letter to the shows creator, Chuck Lorre, that, “no one cares about your feeble show without me.”

However during Monday’s premier Sheen posted a picture of himself watching Kutcher’s debut, tweeting, “Surrounded by friends and watching the premier of Two and a Half Men. Odd…But cool..! So far a lot of laughs!!” Sheen earlier expressed that he is grateful to have Kutcher step into the role.

US fans can catch ‘Two and a Half Men’ on Mondays at 9/8c on CBS. The show will make its long awaited return to the UK on Monday 10th October at 9pm on Comedy Central.
