Earlier this year, MTV commissioned an American version of British teen comedy ‘The Inbetweeners’.

The show was a hit in the UK – After completing three highly rated seasons, a film adaptation of the show broke UK Box Office records to become the highest selling opening weekend for a UK comedy movie ever.

A full season of 12-episodes will be made, starring relative newcomers Bubba Lewis, Joey Pollari, Mark L. Young, and Zack Pearlman as the stars of the show.

The show will join other new MTV teen programs, including ‘Awkward’ and ‘I Just Want My Pants Back’. Commenting on the commission, MTV Programming Director David Janollari said: “It’s got an incredibly strong and authentic young voice. We were really successful in adapting it for our audience and making it sound like a quintessentially American suburban experience.”

The series will be an American adaptation of the sitcom, which follows the trials and tribulations of four suburban teenage friends.

After the spectacular failure that was Skins US, many have been wondering MTV are going to make this work, particularly as the show features many crude jokes which would not be approved by American television censors.

Translation issues aside, those who have seen a preview of the series have enjoyed it, with British Inbetweeners star Anthony Head saying: “Sometimes you wonder about translations but it’s actually good. They followed [the original] very closely.”

The American adaptation of ‘The Inbetweeners’ is due to air on MTV in Spring 2012.

‘The Inbetweeners Movie’ was released on August 19 in the UK, and is due for a US release in November.
