Lost in the mix among the more celebrated names leaving Saturday Night Live after its most recent season was 25-year-old Abby Elliot, who will be moving onto CBS’s long-running sitcom How I Met Your Mother.
Elliot is due to take on a repeated role in the show’s upcoming eighth season as Janeane, according to a CBS source. She will play something along the lines of the “crazy girl,” who could end up being something of an interest to the show’s central protagonist, Ted.
Although her role is set for multiple episodes, Elliot’s first appearance will not come until the latter-half of the show’s new season in 2013. She will be joining her father Chris, who plays Alyson Hannigan‘s character’s father. Chris Elliot was also, coincidentally, a former Saturday Night Live cast member.
The show currently in negotiations for a possible ninth season, which TV experts expect to be the final for the CBS mainstay.
