Several sources indicate that during the upcoming 38th season of Saturday Night Live, the show will begin airing Weekend Update Thursday.

This will be the second time in the show’s history that it will air the episodes, and first since the 2008 election.

Weekend Update Thursday is a political satire news show spin-off from SNL. In 2008, the show aired the specials three times before the November elections, and became famous for Tina Fey’s spot-on impersonation of former U.S. vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Only two episodes are slated to premiere this year – on September 20 and 27th.

SNL cast member Jason Sudeikis, who earned the role of Governor Mitt Romney during the show’s previous seasons, has been heavily rumored to be leaving the show. So, who exactly will play the Republican presidential candidate is still up in the air.

The shows next season is slated to begin September 15. Celebrated cast members Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg have already decided not to return, and it looks like Sudeikis is out as well.
