Queens of the Stone Age have ‘locked themselves in the desert’, trying to finish their next album before the end of the year.

The band, whose last album ‘Era Vulgaris’ was released in 2007, have been recording the album on-and-off for the past year, taking time out to play at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

A band representative posted a message on Facebook, which reads: “Yep. the Queens are deep into making the new album. Locked away in the desert. & shit yeah. it. sounds. F—in. killer.”

Fans have been eagerly awaiting QOTSA’s next offering, after the band suggested early last year that their next album will be released in 2011. With the deadline pushed back, hearing that the album “sounds F-in killer’ will only leave fans more excited for the upcoming release.

The ‘No One Knows’ Rockers, best known for their riff-oriented heavy rock style, have been busy with a number of side projects over the past two years. Most notably, lead vocalist Josh Homme taking time out to form Rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures with Foo Fighter Dave Grohl and Led Zepplin’s John Paul Jones.

Queens of the Stone Age’s next album is expected to be released late 2012.
