Lil Wayne has surpassed all sales projections for his latest album, selling more than 1 Million copies of ‘Tha Carter IV,’ placing the rapper firmly at the top of the Billboard Chart.

The raw sales figures released yesterday suggest that the album sold 1,000,690 copies since being released last week. These raw figures are still subject to verification; however, analysts are confident that the figure will hold up, solidifying the album’s No.1 position.

Weezy has a long history of popular album releases, with ‘Tha Carter IV’ being his third number one album. His last album, ‘Tha Carter III,’ sold over 1.01 Million units within a week of it’s summer 2008 release.

Dwarfed by the success of ‘Tha Carter IV’, the Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ album ‘I’m With You‘, which was also released last week, will debut at No.2 in the Billboard Album chart after selling an estimated 232,320 units.

Mack Maine, president of Lil’ Wayne‘s Young Money Records, tweeted: “We did a MILL in the 1st week AGAIN!!! WE including all of u who helped and purchased da Album!! Love y’all!!!”

Adele‘s ’21’, which is the best selling album of the year having sold more than 8 Million copies, holds the No.3 spot in the chart after selling 155,516 copies this week.

Jay-Z and Kanye West‘s ‘Watch the Throne‘ falls two places from No.2 to No.4 in the chart, having sold 80,897 copies this week.

UPDATE: Billboard have announced the official sales figures for ‘Tha Carter IV.’ The album fell slightly short of the 1 Million mark, selling 964,000 copies in its first week, placing it firmly at the No.1 spot. It is also second best performing debut week album of the year, following Lady Gaga‘s ‘Born This Way’, which -aided by an Amazon MP3 99-cent promotion- sold 1.11 Million copies in its first week.
