The trailer for Chris Colfer‘s new film ‘Struck By Lightning’ has been unleashed on the web.

The film, which represents the star’s leading debut in a feature-length film, was written and co-produced Colfer himself.

The film is presented as a flashback from the perspective of Colfer’s character (Carson Phillips) after he is struck and killed by lightning in the opening scene of the film.

The flashback shows how Phillips got his start in the publishing world by blackmailing his fellow students at Clover High School into helping him achieve his dreams.

Alongside Colfer, the film stars Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland as a ruthless cheerleader, and Angela Kinsey of ‘The Office’ fame as the school guidance counsellor.

The film is also directed by Brian Dannelly, best known for his work on the movie ‘Saved!’, which starred Jena MaloneMandy Moore, and Macaulay Culkin.

In announcing the movie, Colfer admitted to drawing inspiration for parts of the film from his time at Clovis East High School in California.

This isn’t the ‘Glee’ star’s first foray into writing, having penned a children’s book early last year.

The release date for ‘Struck By Lightning’ has yet to be announced, but it is expected to hit theatres at the end of 2012.
