Dwayne Johnson is in talks to star in an upcoming adaptation of ‘Hercules’.

Variety revealed the former wrestler is one of the people currently in talks for the lead role in Brett Ratner‘s upcoming film adaptation of the Hercules story.

Announced almost a year ago, the film will be titled ‘Hercules: The Thracian Wars’, and will be based on the Steve Moore and Cris Bolsin miniseries of the same name.

Provisionally scheduled for a 2014 release, the film will tell the story of demigod Hercules after he turns his back on the Greek Gods and finds himself and his companions training the King of Thrace’s armies, before beginning to suspect the king has sinister motives in mind.

Brett Ratner directed the recently released ‘Tower Heist’, while Dwayne Johnson is set to star in the sequel to ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’, ‘G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation’.

Early last year, Johnson made his return to wrestling at WWE’s WrestleMania XXVII.
