The popular sequel “Deadpool 2” is now part of a campaign from 20th Century Fox for Oscar awards consideration. The superhero film starring Ryan Reynolds was submitted by the studio for 15 different categories at the Academy Awards, according to recent reports. They’re hoping the campaign will help give the movie a nudge so that the Academy gives it recognition and a new uncut version of the film is also part of the promotional campaign months after the original hit theaters.

A report via SyFy Wire on Tuesday (Nov. 20), indicates that among the awards “DP2” could be nominated for are Best Actor for Ryan Reynolds, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, and Best Picture. The film co-stars Morena Baccarin, Josh Brolin, T.J. Miller, and Zazie Beetz, among others. The news of the potential Oscar nominations comes on the box office success of the film, and of course, the fact the previous film received Golden Globes consideration.

“Deadpool” was nominated for the Best Picture Musical or Comedy category as well as for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy (Ryan Reynolds). The previous film was left out of the Academy Award major nominees completely, though. However, the sequel may be able to garner attention for other awards categories including Best Costume, Best Makeup/Hairstyling, and awards for Visual Effects or Sound Mixing.

The film “Deadpool 2” carries an R rating with a run time of two hours. It is the latest comedy/action adventure for the wisecracking mercenary Wade Wilson. This time around he is on a mission to save a mutant teenager who is being pursued by a powerful nemesis known as Cable. Deadpool enlists the help of a new team of heroes for the mission, resulting in even more comedy, action, and an overall fun-filled superhero romp.

To help continue promoting the life of “Deadpool 2,” a new uncut version is also headed to theaters. “Once Upon a Deadpool” is slated for theaters on December 12. The uncut version will feature new footage including the addition of actor Fred Savage, who has been featured prominently in the holiday-themed ads.
