What many fans love about the Galaxy far, far away is the rich history that the world is filled with. Now, with the upcoming series, The Acolyte, fans will have a new opportunity to dive into the world from a different perspective, going even further into the “long time ago” aspect of the familiar blue opening title of every Star Wars movie.

Since the show is still in preproduction, it’s impossible to say what things will look like by the time it’s available to stream. But what is known is that The Acolyte will be focused on the time period in Star Wars history known as the High Republic.

This era, as any seasoned Wookiepedia reader will already be well aware, was about century before the events of the original movies that everyone is familiar with. And while this era of prosperity for the Galaxy may set it apart from the backdrop presented in any of the film trilogies, things may not be as perfect as they seem in this interplanetary society.

Leslye Headland is the showrunner of this project, already well-known and beloved for her work as a producer and director, is working hard to give fans what they want with this show. She hopes to accomplish this by giving people who have long been invested in Star Wars something familiar to latch onto by delving deep into the annals of the Expanded Universe.

The E.U. encompasses all of the storylines, characters, and worlds that haven’t made it into a movie or series. When you consider how long Star Wars has been around – since 1977 – and how many different minds have contributed their voices and ideas to the mix, the team on The Acolyte has more than enough material to work with.

It is Leslye’s passion for the Star Wars stories that has led to her extensive knowledge of this Expanded Universe. Because she’s read so many of the books and comics that have never seen the light of day, she is uniquely situated to create the opportunity for some of the most beloved yet underrated aspects of this universe be appreciated by the fandom at large.
