The Olympics’ closing ceremonies last night may have been the focus of much of the world, but the internet nearly crashed when former Disney starlet Miley Cyrus debuted her brand new haircut on Twitter.
The daring new style threw many of Cyrus’ fans for a curious loop with her daring new style, completely cutting off her long hair, shaving the side and bleaching the color platinum blonde. After the photo was released, Cyrus noted her obvious approval of the new look, saying, “feel so happy, pretty, and free.”
Fans approached the news with less-than-favorable mixed results. Cyrus’ massive Twitter following saw legions of fans and onlookers responded with comments of “awful” to “ugly” to “stupid” throughout the night and into today. Many have commented that the incident is also heavily reminiscent of Britney Spears‘ the infamous breakdown which saw her shave her head completely bald in 2007.
In response the the seemingly endless criticisms of the new pixie crop, several organizations did take note that Cyrus’ hair was donated to an unspecified cancer charity. Regardless, the topic of conversation is still trending heavily on Twitter and will likely be for some time.
