British actor and comedian Russell Brand has been ordered to perform 20 hours of community service and pay a $500 court fee. The actor was charged with a misdemeanor after throwing a photographer’s iPhone through a window.

The charges stem from an altercation on March 12 between Brand and a photographer in New Orleans, where Brand was filming a movie.

The ‘Get Him to the Greek’ star did not appear in court but his attorney Robert Glass entered a not guilty plea for the actor.  Glass told Reuters that the charges would be dismissed if Brand completes the community service hours by Aug. 31.

This is not the comedian’s first clash with a photographer. In 2010, Brand was arrested after an altercation with celebrity photographer at LAX.

Recently divorced from pop star Katy Perry, Brand is the host of the talk show ‘Brand X with Russell Brand’ on FX.
