British comedian Russell Brand has filed for a divorce from his popstar wife Katy Perry.
Brand cited “irreconcilable differences’ in the divorce documents while filing them earlier today in Los Angeles.
In a statement, Brand announced: “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”
News of the divorce comes hot on the heels of sources telling TMZ the couple were having problems. Last week, Brand was sighted in Los Angeles without his wedding ring – Just days after spending Christmas in England; almost 7000 miles away from his wife, who celebrated the holidays in Hawaii.
Brand proposed to the ‘Teenage Dreams’ singer almost two years ago to the day, on New Years Eve 2009. The pair married on October 23 during a private ceremony in Northern India.
Russell Brand made an appearance on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ last month denying rumors the couple had split. Tragically, Brand responded: “I’m really happily married … I’m married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part…”
