Father to the late Amy Winehouse, Mitch Winehouse, remarked at his daughter’s funeral Tuesday that there is a two-year waiting list for help if you cannot afford a private rehabilitation clinic. He was inspired to create a foundation in his daughter’s name to provide help for those who suffer from addiction.

With great sadness, we mourn the loss of the talented, Grammy Award-winning, Amy Winehouse who had a long time struggle with drug and alcohol addiction.  Winehouse was found dead on Saturday, July 23 in her London home. She was 27 years old.

According to BBC News reports, a British Member of Parliament, Keith Vaz, has offered to assist Mitch Winehouse with his plans. Vaz said, “I am very happy to help Mitch in any way I can with his important campaign to help rehabilitate those most vulnerable in our society.”

Mitch said his daughter had completed three weeks of abstinence from drugs and was trying hard to conquer her alcohol addiction before she passed away.

The cause of death was not known after an autopsy, but toxicology reports could be released within a month’s time. Her family believes the cause of death may have been alcohol withdrawal.

Chief Executive of Charity DrugScope, Martin Barnes, told the BBC that “many in the drug treatment sector will welcome Mitch Winehouse’s ambition to help young people struggling with drug problems,” although he disputed Mitch’s claims saying that 94% of patients receive some form of drug treatment within three weeks.
