A unique motion poster showing a burning mockingjay pin and counting down the days until the movie premieres has been released for the film adaptation of the popular book series by Suzanne Collins.
Jennifer Lawerence, who was a Best Actress Academy Award nominee for her role in Winter’s Bone, will play the role of Katniss Everdeen a young girl who must conquer a survival contest to save her friends and family. The setting is in a dystopian future where power is controlled by the Captiol, the central city of the world.
The Hunger Games are an annual televised event where the Capitol chooses one boy and one girl from each district to fight to the death to show that even children are under the Capitol’s power.
Actor Josh Hutcherson will play the leading male role of Peeta Mellark who is placed to duel with Katniss in the games.
Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, and Stanley Tucci round out the main cast as characters Effie Trinket, Gale Hawthorne, Haymitch Abernathy, and Caesar Flickerman respectively.
Director and screenwriter Gary Ross plans to release the film on 23rd March, 2012.
