Just 24 hours after a surprisingly high quality version of the ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ trailer leaked online, Sony have stepped in and released an official HD version of the trailer. The new trailer gives the impression that the tone of this movie, directed by the fittingly named novice filmmaker Marc Webb, will differ greatly from the last set of Spider-Man films.

It is clear that this Spider-Man, played by ‘The Social Network’ breakout star Andrew Garfield, will be darker than the past three Spider-Man films, which were led by Toby Maguire as ‘Spidey’ himself and Kirsten Dunst as Mary-Jane Watson.

Garfield recently expressed his excitement at being able to play the iconic comic book character, telling MTV News, “I related to Peter Park so much because I felt like someone else inside. I loved the comic book and the animated TV series and I even dressed up as Spider-Man as a kid.”

Mary-Jane is sidelined for the upcoming film in favor of Gwen Stacy -Peter Parkers first love- whose presence put Parker in the scenario that led to him becoming Spider-Man. She will be played by ‘Easy A’ star Emma Stone.

The film will an entirely new cast from the previous Spider-Man movies, including comedian Denis Leary as George Stacy, the father or Peter Parkers love-interest; and actor Irrfan Khan as Nels Van Adder, an Oscorp employee that agrees to test the the prototype ‘Goblin’ serum that creates the Proto-Goblin.

Peter Parker’s aunt and uncle will also have new faces in the reboot, with Martin Sheen and Sally Field taking on the roles of Ben and Mary Parker respectively.

The last Spider-Man movie to hit the screens, ‘Spider-Man 3’ has grossed over $890 Million since its release in 2007; and with all the anticipation surrounding ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, this reboot has a real chance of become the highest grossing Spiderman movie ever to hit the big screen.

Even with this anticipation, much like the recently released ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ trailer, the film is not due in theatres for almost a year.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ will premiere in the US on July 3, 2012.
