Wednesday came as a welcome Thanksgiving surprise for Netflix subscribers. The series stars Jenna Ortega as the morose elder child of the iconic Addams family. Sent to the strange Nevermore Academy after being expelled from her public high school, Wednesday is left to untangle a mystery involving a murderous monster while navigating the ups and downs of growing up with psychic abilities. Currently resting in Netflix’s top 10 most watched series and standing at a respectable 70 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, fans of Wednesday wonder what the series has in store for viewers in a potential sophomore season. While the series has yet to be officially renewed by the streaming giant, showrunner Miles Millar recently spoke with reporters from Deadline about what adventures could await Wednesday if the show gets picked up for more episodes.

Millar says that one of the key threads he would like to explore in a second season of Wednesday is more stories involving Wednesday’s family. The series pulled all the stops in casting Wednesday’s parents, with Catherine Zeta Jones portraying Morticia and Luis Guzman playing Gomez. While Millar loved the casting of Morticia and Gomez, he nevertheless feels that the show has only begun exploring their lives. Millar notes that the relationship between Morticia and Wednesday is particularly important to him and Alfred Gough, who also serves as showrunner on the series. While Morticia and Wednesday both have psychic abilities, Millar points out that Wednesday is very much focused on following her own path outside of the Addams family dynamic.

In addition to Millar’s stated interest in exploring the lives of more members of the Addams family in a potential season two, the show’s first season finale also gave hints for what viewers can expect in the future. The season concluded with the revelation that Wednesday was being a stalked by someone who had access to her newly acquired cell phone. Additionally, the final moments of the season saw Tyler, who had survived his battle with Enid’s werewolf form, transforming into his monstrous Hyde persona while being transported to prison.

Wednesday’s entire 8-episode first season is currently available to stream on Netflix.
