The Billboard Music Awards will air on NBC on May 20, 2018, according to Dick Clark Productions and NBC. The ceremony began in 1990 when it presented its first award. Among those who won that year included Wilson Philips and Janet Jackson. Wilson Philips won for the Top 100 song while Janet Jackson won eight awards in various categories.

This will be the first time that the Billboard Music Awards will broadcast on NBC. In 2017, the network signed a multi-year deal with Dick Clark Productions to air the show exclusively on NBC. Paul Telegdy, President of Alternative and Reality Group at NBC, released a statement that said in part: “We are thrilled to collaborate with the Billboard Music Awards and Dick Clark Productions to bring our mutual love of music and live programming together to showcase spectacular performances with the biggest names in music.” The Billboard Music Awards have continued to be the standard for the music industry that allows musicians to showcase their talent while including their fan base through record sales and online listening.

The award ceremony highlights the best songs throughout the year while giving music fans some of the best performances by their favorite artists. Hosted in 2017 by Ludacris and Vanessa Hudgens, the biggest winner of Billboard Music Awards was Drake who made music history by becoming the first artist to win 13 awards in a single year. The ceremony also showcased performances by artists such as Nikki Minaj, The Chainsmokers, Bruno Mars and Celine Dion. The biggest performance was by Cher who completed her classic song “Believe”. She gave the audience a stunning performance while wearing the exact same outfit that was worn in her 1989 video of the song “If I Could Turn Back Time”.

It’s unclear who will be performing this year at the Billboard Music Awards ceremony as well as who will be nominated for an award. The finalists for the awards are determined by prearranged interactions between music fans, album sales, digital sales as well as radio airplay and online streaming. The data is tracked by Billboard Music Awards and Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. The period for reporting all sales and online listening data will end in March 2018.

As of January, the host for the Billboard Music Awards has not been announced. The show will be live on NBC, airing on the east coast and west coast simultaneously.
