At the 2010 MTV VMA’s (Video Music Awards) Lady Gaga surprised her fans, by outdoing even her most outrageous of costumes, when she made an appearance in meat! This was not the first time Gaga had been featured wearing a cow for clothes– the pop artist wore a similar outfit for a recent cover of ‘Vogue Hommes Japan.’

Gaga’s unique style is often misunderstood, and the meat-dress was no exception. Ellen DeGeneres felt it may have been a criticism of vegetarians, and she even confronted the singer about it on her show. To explain her style, Lady Gaga told Ellen, “If we don’t stand up for what we believe and if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat.”

Recently, the infamous meat-dress found its way into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame thanks to Sergio Vigalato, of American Taxidermy in Burbank, CA. Vigalato received the dress in poor condition, decaying and frozen, and it took him nearly four months to restore it.

Now Franc Fernandez’s design will live on. The dress went on display at the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum last month, as part of the “Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power” exhibit.
