‘Sex and the City’ initially aired in June of 1998. After a six season run, the show was cancelled in 2004. However, that was not the last of its beloved characters. Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda would make two more appearances, this time in theaters.

‘Sex and the City,’ the movie, was an instant box office hit. The feature grossed over $55 million opening weekend alone, and when ‘Sex and the City 2’ came out, its total domestic gross nearly hit $100 million.

With the popularity of the first two films, rumors are now spreading a prequel may be in the works. Candace Bushnell, author of the series that inspired the show, wrote two.

The original cast has a few problems with this idea though. Sarah Jessica Parker, the actress who played “Carrie Bradshaw,” has expressed concerns that a prequel would not be a smart move.

Kristin Davis, the actress behind “Charlotte York,” has been even more vocal. Davis told Entertainment News, “We’re us and we’ve discussed our history in the show already, so for all of our fervent fans who listen to what we say, why would we rewrite that?”

Another issue is the original cast’s age. The parts would have to be played by younger actresses. Davis said this presents yet another problem for the original cast– “And then have like different people with our names? It’s kind of freaky.”

Allegedly, the character Carrie would be played by Elizabeth Olsen. Emma Roberts may be replacing Cynthia Nixon as Miranda and Selena Gomez could take the roll of Charlotte. Blake Lively’s name has been mentioned for Kim Cattrall’s character Samantha, but Lively’s reps deny this.
