Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have announced their imminent divorce following seven years of marriage. The couple, who have two children together, three-year-old twins Max and Emme, broke the news in a joint statement.
“We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters. It is a painful time for all involved and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time.”
The announcement has come as a shock. Merely weeks ago the couple appeared very much in love as Lopez spoke to Latina about the importance of love and respect in their relationship; “You know, we respect each other, we respect each others opinions, and we love each other, more than anything.”
The talented couple are also due to present reality talent show ‘¡Q’viva! The chosen’ in the fall. The premise sees the couple travel throughout Latin America in search of talented individuals able to represent their country. The chosen ones will then be brought to the United States and star in a Latin American talent extravaganza. The impact their spilt will have on the shows production is not yet known.
The divorce will be the third for the ‘single ladies’ singer. Lopez was married to Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998 and dancer Chris Judd from 2001 to 2002. The singer also experienced a high profile break-up with the actor Ben Affleck.
Marc is no stranger to divorce either having been married to Dayanara Tores, the former Miss Universe, from 2000 to 2002.
