Ellen DeGeneres turned 54 on Thursday, January 26 2012.

To mark the occasion, a long list of Ellen’s celebrity friends stepped forward to wish the popular talk-show host a Happy Birthday in a new video.

Featuring the likes of Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, Ricky Gervais, and Bono, the video depicts the stars wishing offering personal birthday messages to Ellen, and in Stevie Wonder’s case, singing and playing the harmonica to the tune of ‘Happy Birthday’.

The messages are mixed in with notable clips from the past year of ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’. Other stars to offer birthday messages include Sting, Meryl Streep, Eddie Murphy, Russell Brand, the Black Eyed Peas, and ‘Modern Family’ stars Nolan Gould and Sofia Vergara.

Born in Louisiana in 1958, Ellen first rose to prominence as a stand-up comedienne before going on to star in her own popular television sitcom, titled ‘Ellen’, which aired from 1994-1998. It was only in 1997 that DeGeneres came out publicly as a lesbian, during an appearance on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’.

Since then, Ellen has gone on to become a prominent LGBT rights activist, and was recently named by USA Today as one of the the ‘Most Admired’ women of 2011.

Ellen married her partner of 3-years Portia de Rossi during a private ceremony at their Beverly Hills home in 2008.
