It was a very good year for Marvel Studios in 2019. One of the reasons for this was the massive success of “Captain Marvel” on a global scale. The film starring Brie Larson raked in a cool $1 billion around the world during its release. This was far bigger than anyone could have imagined. There was even a campaign to bring down the Rotten Tomatoes score of the film prior to its release. That campaign obviously did not have any impact at all on its box office earnings. Considering the movie was such a big hit, it was only a matter of time until a sequel was given the green light by Marvel.

It has been revealed that a sequel to “Captain Marvel” is officially in development. There has not been a release date announced as of yet. However, it is expected that the film will come out at some point in 2022. A person has already been hired to write the script. It was also announced that the directors of the first “Captain Marvel” film will not be back again for the sequel. This has made some fans very nervous. They believe that the creative team from the first film should have remained intact. However, that is apparently not going to happen.

Details about the movie’s plot have not been revealed as of yet. Since the script is still being written, we will not know anything about the casting for quite a while. There is no doubt that “Captain Marvel” has a chance to be a very big franchise for Marvel Studios if they play their cards right. They just need to make sure that the script for the second film is as good as the first one. Only time will tell if that is the case.

According to GQ, it is rumored that the sequel will take place in the present day. One of the fun aspects of the first film is that it was set in 1995. That gave the screenwriters plenty of chances to make fun of things that were very popular back then. Blockbuster Video was a very big target of ridicule in the film. The first film had three screenwriters and a pair of directors. There will only be one of each this time around. That should help the sequel to be made much faster than the original. Only time will tell if that is the case.
