The music industry fell into mourning with the death of Taylor Hawkins, the Foo Fighters drummer who died aged 50 years. Musicians, celebrities, and rock stars remember the famous drummer as the ”coolest dude ever” with some of his friends calling him ”one of rock’s greatest drummers.” Taylor’s untimely death is considered a heavy blow to his family, the Foo Fighters, and his fan base. In a statement released after his death, the Foo Fighters family did not disclose the cause of the tragic death. However, news has it that the band was to perform at the Festival Estereo Picnic in Bogota, Colombia.

A press release from the festival management said that the show would not go ahead as the world mourns with the Foo Fighter family. Taylor has been an instrumental member of the band since joining in 1997. He was brought in by lead singer and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl who led the band to become one of the greatest and critically-lauded alternative rock bands in the United States. Taylor will be remembered for his percussions in some of the band’s greatest hits, including ‘Best of You’ and ‘Learn to Fly.’ Before joining Foo Fighters, Hawkins drummed for Canadian indie Alanis Morissette.

The band recently celebrated its 25th anniversary after releasing ‘Studio 666’, a rock-and-roll horror movie featuring the band. Condolence messages and tributes have come in from different parts of the world, with celebrities such as Ozzy Osbourne hailing Taylor as a great person and an incredible musician.

A post from the band read ” the Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” they went on to say, ” His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.” The Bogota municipal government released a statement on Friday night stating that the city’s emergency services were alerted to a distress call by a patient suffering chest pains. According to officials, an ambulance was dispatched to the Four Seasons Case Medina Hotel, where the band was staying to try and save the drummer. However, efforts by the EMTs to resuscitate him were futile, and he was pronounced dead.

During his two-decade-long career with Foo Fighters, Hawkins handled different roles, including vocal duty and even singing lead in Cold Day in the Sun, the band’s 2005 single. Besides Foo Fighters, Taylor also worked with other musicians and groups to launch his personal projects. The Musician leaves behind his wife Alison and three children.
