New content has been released in Rick and Morty land, so pop culture’s top minds are busy scrubbing over each animated frame to tell the helpless public what it’s all about. Here’s what we know – and still don’t know – about Rick and Morty season 6 based on the trailer that dropped last week.

It’s About Family

One of the changes made in season 5 is definitely going to stick, which the vast majority of the sometimes split Rick and Morty fans seem pleased about: You’ll be seeing much more of the Smiths. Many hail this as a return to what the show was always about – family. We’ll even get to see Summer “doing a Die Hard.”

Season 5 left us with what may have been the most epic sci-fi sequence in a low-brow animated comedy series. Now that Evil Morty has broken through the Central Finite Curve, a multiverse of possibilities seems to have opened up for this fascinatingly evil character.

Bringing Us Closer to the Rick and Morty in Our Hearts

If you’re worried about this muddying the waters and getting in the way of your pure, classic Rick and Morty adventures, you need not worry – and you especially need not riot at your local fast food chain over a certain type of sauce. This trailer clearly indicates that the greater inclusion of Jerry, Beth, and Summer will only bring us closer to the pandimensional grandson-grandpa duo we know and love.

As we’ve clearly seen in the past, Morty tends to grow more as a character when he isn’t forced to shove mega seeds into uncomfortable places, hide in a vat of fake acid, and generally do whatever else Rick needs him to do at the time. This more family-centric season is sure to bring us plenty of opportunities for Morty to develop into his own person, as we’ve seen him continue to do throughout the run of the show.

This is only the first trailer, so stand by for more updates. There is more yet to be revealed before this next installment of episodes is released unto our universe and allowed to expand our consciousness.
