Women have actively participated in the entertainment industry for decades, but it has only been recently that they have began to be recognized for their achievements. A lot of the time, women are not given credit for their work because people don’t think they have the ability to do anything as well as men. However, these are the most female artists who have proven otherwise.

1. Beyonce

Singer and rapper well known for her singles “Crazy In Love,” “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It),” and “Ring The Alarm.” She’s also famous for her self-titled album, released on 4/4/2004. This album was number one in many countries and sold over 17 million copies worldwide. Her second studio album called B’Day was released on 7/7/2006, and it too became a success selling over 14 million copies around the world. Bey finally released her third studio album titled ‘Beyonce’ on 8/8/2013.

2. Taylor Swift

She’s an American country music singer, songwriter, actress, and author from Reading, Pennsylvania. She started singing at age three, and by age 11, she had written her first song. At 15, she was able to sign with Big Machine Records. Her debut single, “Tim McGraw,” became a top 10 hit in both Canada and United States. By 2005 she had become the youngest woman ever to win Entertainer of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Her debut album named ‘Taylor Swift’ was released on 6/23/2005. It reached number 1 in U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart and spawned five hit singles.

3. Katy Perry

She’s an American pop singer, songwriter, dancer, record producer, actress, and television personality. She gained fame after releasing her debut single “I Kissed a Girl” in 2010. Since then, she has gone on to release multiple successful singles such as “Firework,” “E.T.,” and “Last Friday Night (TGIF).” Her debut album, Teenage Dream, was released on 3/5/2010.

4. Rihanna

She’s a Barbadian singer, songwriter, fashion designer, model, and businesswoman. She started her career as a recording artist in 2006 when she released her debut single “Pon de Replay” featuring Jay-Z. Her debut studio album “A Girl Like Me” was released on November 25, 2007. It debuted atop the U.K. Albums Chart and topped the charts in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, and Scotland. It became the fastest-selling album in Britain history.

5. Adele

Adele is an English singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, and pianist. She achieved mainstream popularity with her 2008 eponymous debut album, which produced the international hits “Someone like You,” “Rolling in the Deep,” and “Hometown Glory.” Her second album, 21, was released in 2011 and became the biggest selling album of 2012.
