Bayonetta 3 is just about to hit digital and physical storefronts and despite the current controversy over who is voicing the suggestive and playful protagonist, some people are curious just how well the gameplay, story and controls deliver. Provided below is a compilation of highlights from several media outlets whom have enjoyed advance time with review copies.

  • Gamespot’s Jessie Howard compared Bayonetta to a pop star between its music and the protagonist’s over-the-top aesthetics. Howard goes on to compare the game experience to catching a staple show in Las Vegas with gorgeous choreography, spectacle and notable guest spots. The adventure is fast, adventurous and charismatic thanks to this icon of game heroines at the helm.
  • Game Informer’s Black Hester had nothing but positive things to say about the game and admitted to having gone back through completed levels in order to satisfy the urge to get a better score. Hester admits to some concern about the future of the franchise but concedes that this newest installment is “Bayo” at her best.
  • GamesRadar’s Oscar Taylor-Kent was a bit harsher than the other critics, rating the game just 3.5 out of 5 due to pacing issues and a split focus amidst all the fun of playing as a vengeful witch.
  • Inverse’s Jess Reyes quipped that Bayonetta 3 gives action game fans everything they could want with its quick, progressive combat system and amazing cutscenes. Reyes’ only issues were awkward minigames and some obtuse challenges. Reyes reiterated that few games of 2022 have offered better combat experiences.
  • The Verge’s Ash Parrish remarked that Bayonetta is a true icon whose overwhelming skill and sexuality seems unending in this third installment until the final half-hour of the game’s story plays with the franchise’s lore.
  • Polygon’s Maddy Myers cautions those interested that this game is a truly amazing experience if their tastes are toward snappy and impressive combat systems. Se went on to remark that people interested in the overt sexuality and femininity of Bayo herself may be left confused, disappointed or irate by the climax of the story.
