Banned from Balthazar

It’s the tantalizing tale that refuses to die. Last week, actor and talk show host James Corden was called out publicly by the owner of the popular New York restaurant Balthazar. Keith McNally took to Instagram to recount an incident in which one of his servers had been treated rudely by the comedian. The fracas apparently started with an egg yolk omelet that was accidentally brought to the table with some egg white in it. After the order was returned and was still incorrect, Corden made some very rude comments to the server. McNally, therefore, decided to ban him from the restaurant. The feud took off like wildfire on social media, with many people weighing in to make jokes about banning Corden — and with some even recounting their own alleged uncomfortable encounters with the star. According to the owner, Corden saw his post and called the restauranteur to apologize. At that point, McNally decided to lift the ban. However, a lot of the gossip continued to fly around.

Issues around an Allergy

According to Corden, the reason for his meltdown was the fact that his wife has an allergy to egg whits. Many people online wondered why she would still order an egg product at a restaurant with such a severe allergy. There was something about the entire story that took on a life of its own, and eventually Corden found himself apologizing during his monologue on the talk show that he hosts. Although he had not initially planned on apologizing in a public forum, apparently his father convinced him to do so. Meanwhile, the incident continues to be discussed by comedians and others who find it humorous. McNally did accept Corden’s apology, but the words he used in his initial post will most likely reverberate throughout Corden’s history. After all, it’s not every day that someone is referred to as the rudest customer to frequent an eatery in over two decades.
