On Sunday evening, comedian and car enthusiast Jay Leno returned to his regular set at the Comedy Magic Club. Leno was severely burned less than two weeks ago, and he spent ten days at the Grossman Burn Center in LA for treatment. He had been released from the burn center on Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving.

Leno has performed a Sunday evening gig at the Comedy Magic Club for many years. In fact, since 1992, when he took the reins of The Tonight Show, Leno spent his Sunday evenings at the club. There, he tried out potential ideas for his monologue.

Both fellow comedians and the owners of the Comedy Magic Club were ecstatic to see Leno’s return. The owners of the club unveiled a sign that read “Welcome Back Jay! We Love You;” Leno’s fellow comedians had glowing comments for their friend and were happy to see his return.

Another late-night talk show alum, Arsenio Hall, opened for Leno; Hall commented that Leno was “a great guy.” Hall also joked that he had brought a case of cocoa butter lotion for Leno, but that Leno had left it in the dressing room. In addition to Hall opening, comedian Jimmy Brogan performed just prior to Leno’s set.

Attendees at the comedy club say that, true to form, Leno poked fun at himself regarding the serious “medical emergency” he experienced. Leno suffered second- and third-degree burns while working on one of his beloved classic cars earlier in the month.

Leno told entertainment reporters last week that he was “doing good.” He also thanked them for their well-wishes. Leno was questioned about the prospect of driving the car involved in the explosion, to which Leno replied that he would likely drive the car within the coming week. Leno added that the car “did nothing wrong.”
