Fans of Lisbeth Salander will have to wait a little longer for the sequel to the American version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
The sequel The Girl Who Played With Fire, based on book two of bestselling trilogy by the late Swedish author Stieg Larsson will not be released next year as expected but is still in the works, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The first Girl With The Dragon Tattoo film received five Academy Award nominations (including a Best Actress nod for Rooney Mara) but MGM Holdings CEO Gary Barber said that the company still took a modest loss on the film. This led many to believe that the trilogy would not be completed.
Studio sources have revealed, however, that a sequel is in the works and screenwriter Steven Zaillian is currently working on the script, with film leads Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara both reportedly on board for the sequel. It is unclear whether director David Fincher will return for the second film.
