With Halloween fast approaching, an abundance of horror movies are scheduled to creep into theatres. The trailer for Nick Murphy’s supernatural thriller, ‘The Awakening’ has recently materialized and looks set to scare the bejesus out of the expectant audience.

In post World War One Britain, sceptical paranormal researcher, Florence Cathcart (Rebecca Hall) is invited to an all-boys boarding school to undertake a spot of ghost hunting. Bravely declaring, “You can’t hunt what doesn’t exist” Cathcart intends to disprove the boy’s claims of ghostly goings-on. However phantom sightings force her to re-evaluate all rational beliefs and scientific reasoning.

The trailer perfectly conveys the atmosphere expected from a traditional ghost story. It fulfils all criteria; eerie lighting, foreboding music and a sinister stately home. If you are a fan of ghostly tales such as ‘The Others’ and ‘The Orphanage’, ‘The Awakening’ will satisfy.

In addition to Rebecca Hall (‘The Town’), ‘The Awakening’ has a stellar British cast, including Dominic West (‘The Wire’) as the schools headmaster and Imelda Staunton (‘Vera Drake’) as the matron, Maud Hill.

‘The Awakening’ is due for UK release on November 11, however a release date for the US is not yet set.
