Creating perhaps the biggest buzz at last weekend’s massive Comic-Con convention in San Diego was AMC’s mega-hit show The Walking Dead. The increasingly popular franchise featured a fan-favorite obstacle course at the city’s baseball stadium Petco Park. The set-up was incredibly elaborate, according to The Hollywood Reporter:

“Staged by a team of nearly 600 crewmembers — in addition to the scores of zombies expected to scare the daylights out of fans as the creatures swarm and jump from out of nowhere — the event took six months of planning and two weeks of building preparation before the four-level course was assembled in four days.”

The comic franchise also celebrated the release of its 100th issue, which distributed nearly 383,000 copies to retailers – the most of any comic book since 1997.

Not solely limited to theatrics and the comics, AMC also announced the schedule for the upcoming third season of the show. The zombie horror series has become a massive success since premiering on AMC Halloween night, 2010, steadily gaining viewership in its first two seasons.

The third season is slated to begin Sunday, October 14 at the usual time of 9 p.m. EST. The 16-episode season will be split into two parts, with the second half slated to begin in February 2013.
