Despite being the highest-rated television show for the network with a debut of 1.13 million viewers, Starz has canceled ‘Camelot’ after it’s first season.

The show debuted with a impressive audience figures but apparently lost viewership as the 10-episode season progressed, which posed questions for the production staff of the big-budget series.

The show stars, ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Twilight’ actor Jamie Campbell Bower, ‘Shakespeare in Love’ actor Joseph Fiennes, along with ‘Casino Royale’ actress Eva Green.

The stars of the series have steady careers in other ventures, and the network has spoken frequently that scheduling conflicts are mainly to blame.

In a statement released to the press, Starz explained the cancelation, saying: “Due to significant production challenges, Starz has decided not to exercise the option for subsequent seasons of Camelot with our production partners.”

While the network has stayed mum on the amount of money spent on each episode of the series, rumors are saying that millions were needed to create the authentic period pieces and settings.

Perhaps Starz will find more success in it’s upcoming series, ‘Torchwood: Miracle Day’, which is planned to debut late this July and the return of the popular sci-fi series ‘Spartacus: Vengeance.’
