NBC’s Saturday Night Live will kick off its 38th season Saturday, September 15.

The premiere comes earlier than usual this year. NBC is scheduling much of its season to start early and pushing the SNL premiere forward gives the show ample opportunity to take advantage of election year comedy material.

The announcement appeared on the SNL blog: “Well it’s official, summer is winding down. And while we’re sad to say goodbye to sun, shorts and the beach, we are excited to say hello to all of our friends and fans when we return for the Season 38 premiere on September 15th!! It’s been so long; we’ve missed you! So take advantage of these last few weeks of summer, hit up all the spots Stefon recommends and we will see you soon! Cannot wait.”

SNL will return this season with some changes to the cast. Popular cast members Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Abby Elliot will be leaving the show. It is uncertain whether Jason Sudeikis will remain in the cast.  NBC is expected to announce new cast members.

The host and musical guest for the season premiere have not yet been announced.
