HBO series ‘Girls’ will be back for a second season this January.

The comedy, hailed by many as ‘Sex and the City for a new generation’, follows a group of female friends as they navigate post-college life in New York City.

Show creator and star Lena Dunham is nominated for four Emmy awards for her work on ‘Girls’.  Best known for her work in the directors seat for indie film ‘Tiny Furniture’, Dunham is nominated for Outstanding Comedy, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy, Outstanding Writing For A Comedy and Outstanding Directing For A Comedy.

‘Girls’ saw steady rating growth throughout its first season, topping off the season with one million viewers in June.

Fans won’t have to wait long for season 2, which will air on Sundays and start its ten-episode run for the second season in January 2013.

HBO also picked ‘Enlightenment’, starring Golden Globe nominated actress Laura Dern for a 10-episode second season starting in January.
