The Chicago White Sox were expected to be one of the best teams in the American League, but they find themselves in third place in the Central division after 65 games. While the team has not performed up to expectations, they can still easily win another division title. The team is finally getting fairly healthy after battling injuries to several major contributors. The White Sox looked to get a key win when they hosted the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday night.

 Expected Pitchers Duel

The starting pitchers for this important contest were Kevin Gausman and Dylan Cease. Runs were expected to be at a premium with both teams sending their ace to the mound. Guasman rebounded from his recent poor stretch by giving up only two runs over six innings. The Chicago starter was even more impressive. Cease tallied 11 strikeouts in six scoreless innings.

 Late Chaos

The bullpens for both teams failed to continue the great pitching after the starters left the game. Toronto got their first run when Alejandro Kirk hit his seventh homer of the year in the seventh inning. The Blue Jays added three more runs in the eighth off of Davis Martin. Cavan Biggio, Bo Bichette and Kirk drove in the runs.

The White Sox entered the bottom of the ninth trailing by two runs after getting a great start from Dylan Cease. Chicago was down to their final out when Luis Robert tied the game with a two-run single to center field that scored Tim Anderson and Adam Haseley. AJ Pollock came up with the winning run on third base, but he was unable to get the walkoff hit.

 Extra Innings

The craziness continued into extra innings. The game remained tied after the teams traded runs in the 10th and 11th innings. After finally preventing Toronto from scoring, the White Sox had a chance to win it in the 12th. The first two Chicago hitters were retired before Josh Harrison came up with a walkoff single to secure the 7-6 win.

 What’s Next

This huge comeback put the White Sox only two wins behind the Cleveland Guardians for the division lead. Chicago will look to get another huge win over the talented Toronto club this afternoon. Lucas Giolito will start the game for the White Sox. He will be opposed by Ross Stripling.
