Coldplay have released the animated music video for their Mylo Xyloto track “Hurts Like Heaven.”

The band unveiled the first part of their six-part Mylo Xyloto comic book series over the summer and the music video brings the comic book characters to life.

The video follows five members of a graffiti gang as they flee from numerous police officers clad in black and wearing helmets that give them an insect-like appearance. The gang, on the other hand, appears with bursts of brilliant color and provides a glimpse of hope to people living in a world of darkness. The video is, by turns, beautiful and thrilling.

“Hurts Like Heaven,” the fifth single off the album ‘Mylo Xyloto,’ provides the perfect backdrop for the animated clip.

‘Kung Fu Panda’ director Mark Osborne directed the music video. Osborne is also co-writing the comic series with the band.

The Mylo Xyloto series is published by ‘The Simpsons creator Matt Groening‘s Bongo Comics Group. The rest of the series will be released monthly, starting in February 2013.

Capital Records reports that “Hurts Like Heaven” will be the final single from the band’s  2011 album, ‘Mylo Xyloto.’
