Robbie Williams has split from his former record label EMI and joined forces with rival company Universal Music. The news comes as the ‘Angles’ singer confirms plans for a new solo album scheduled for autumn 2012.

Robbie first signed to EMI in 2002, accepting a deal that was reported to be worth £50million. However, following difficulties with the company he has accepted a deal with Universal, the company behind Take That’s recent reunion album, ‘Progress’.

In a statement Robbie said: “I’m really thrilled to be joining the Universal family at what I think is the most exciting time in my career.”

Robbie, who recently spilt from Take That to concentrate on his solo work, is currently working on his forthcoming album in LA.

Universal Music CEO David Joseph said; “Having had a chance to listen to the music I’ve no doubt that Robbie is currently at his most creatively inspired. We are about to witness something very special.”
