You’d be forgiven for having never heard of Keyes. At 18-years-old, she’s pretty much a baby. But this baby just dropped her début single “Veins” and it’s something to behold.
This is the first song the 18-year-old from Warwickshire, England has ever recorded, but you’d never be able to tell. The performance is tight. The song is edgy and a little ethereal in places, while upbeat synths bounce along with every beat of the track and offer the perfect counterpoint to raw, mature, and perhaps a little dark, vocals.
It’s reminiscent of Lorde or Troye Sivan around the time of their first debuts.
That being said, the sound is unlike anything else coming out of the “underground” pop world right now, and it works. Keyes will certainly be one to keep an eye on in the coming years.
