The nominees for the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards have been announced!
This year, the artists to watch are Rihanna and Taylor Swift. Rihanna is nominated for six awards at this year’s MTV EMAs and Swift is close on her heels with five nods.
Rihanna is nominated for top honors of Best Song, Best Video, Best Female, Best Pop, Biggest Fans, and Best Look.
Swift and Rihanna will go head-to-head in three categories: Best Female, Best Pop, and Best Look.
Both ladies performed at the recent 2012 MTV VMAs where Rihanna took home the night’s most coveted award, Video of the Year. She won for her edgy ‘We Found Love’ video.
British boy band One Direction made waves at the VMAs, taking home three awards including Best New Artist. One Direction also got a Best New Artist nod in the MTV EMA nominations, as well as in the Biggest Fans category.
American artists Justin Bieber and Katy Perry were nominated four times each. Perry is also up against Rihanna in the Best Video category.
British rock bands Muse and Coldplay both got two EMA nods.

The 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards will air on MTV2 at 11 pm on Sunday November 11.
