Lady Gaga revealed the title of her upcoming album, called ‘ARTPOP,’ on her new social networking site littlemonsters.com and later confirmed the album title on Twitter.

The tweet, which included a photo Lady Gaga’s new ARTPOP tattoo, urged the press to be sure to capitalize ‘ARTPOP’ when writing about the new album. She refers to ‘ARTPOP’ as an album/project.

Lady Gaga previously announced that she would keep the new album title under wraps until September.

The follow-up to 2011’s ‘Born This Way’ is slated for release in 2013,but the singer has given her “little monsters” a few glimpses of the new album. She debuted select tracks from the ARTPOP album on her ‘Born This Way Ball’ tour, including the ballad “Princess Die.”

Lady Gaga has not shared the meaning behind the new album’s title but it has been speculated that ARTPOP could refer to Artistic Revolution Through the Potential of Pop. The phrase is seen regularly on littlemonsters.com.

The singer compared ‘ARTPOP’ to ‘Born This Way’ at a concert. “Let’s just say I feel, I feel that when I wrote Born This Way, I demonstrated a sense of maturity,” she said. “And I feel that on the next album, there’s a lack of maturity — it’s a tremendous lack of maturity or sense of responsibility.”

Whatever the maturity level, listeners know that Lady Gaga will never leave them yawning. Fans can anticipate exciting videos and controversial fashions from the mercurial singer to go along with the upcoming album.
