BBC Radio 1 have announced the full line-up for the 2012 Hackney Weekend.

Billed as the BBC’s ‘biggest ever free-ticketed live music event’, the Hackney Weekend will take place on 23 and 24 June, 2012 marking the start of the London 2012 Festival.

Last year it was announced X-Factor winner and former Hackney resident Leona Lewis will lead the event alongside the likes Plan B and Tinie Tempah. However, todays announcement adds 25 new artists to the event, including Ed Sheeran, Jessie JDeadmau5David Guetta, and Will.i.am.

More artists are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Speaking about the event, Leona Lewis said: “I’m so excited about the opportunities and the excitement that it will bring to the area. Radio 1 are going to put on the biggest show in their history and it’s happening in East London – I couldn’t be happier!”

BBC Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend is part of the UK’s Cultural Olympiad, a cultural celebration happening across the UK to mark the London 2012 Olympics.

50,000 pairs of tickets will be made available, primarily to people living in the London Borough of Hackney and the surrounding areas, over the coming weeks, providing access to the event’s six stages. For those not lucky enough to get tickets, the event will be broadcast on live on BBC Three.

Public ticket applications begin on Monday, 6 February at 8.15 am on the BBC Radio 1 website.
