Retro-Soul singer Adele‘s sophomore album ’21’ has become the best-selling album of the 21st Century in the UK.

Having already broken numerous records, topped the charts in 19-countries, and spent more than 46-weeks in the Billboard album chart, it has now toppled the late Amy Winehouse‘s iconic ‘Back to Black’ album to become the best selling album of the century in her native UK.

The UK’s Official Charts Company confirmed that at the start of December, ’21’ had achieved sales of 3.4 Million copies in less than a year. Winehouse’s ‘Back to Black’ stands at 3.3 Million copies since its 2006 release. These latest figures place ’21’ as the 10th biggest selling album of all time in the UK – Just a year after its release.

’21’ is already the biggest selling album of the year by far, with analysts predicting that the ‘Rolling in the Deep’ singer will sell more than 15 Million copies worldwide before the end of this year.

Sales of ’21’ rebounded last week after Adele received six grammy nomination, including Album of the Year for ’21’.

When told about the grammy nominations, the singer -who recently underwent sugery on her vocal cords- was said to be “lost for words”.
