Coldplay’s ‘Mylo Xyloto’ Dominates The Billboard 200

Every chart analyst worth their money predicted that Coldplay‘s latest offering, ‘Mylo Xyloto’, would top the charts this week.

It seems, however, no one expected the record breaking band to take the record for the highest first-week iTunes album sales, and debut at No.1 in the charts of 21 countries worldwide.

The band found themselves debuting at No.1 in The Billboard 200 after selling a total of 447,000 records; almost 300,000 more than second-place holder Kelly Clarkson, whose ‘Stronger’ album sold 163,000 copies this week; followed closely by Michael Bublé‘s ‘Christmas’ album, which sold 141,000 copies.

Also, even with her medically mandated silence, Adele still managed to clinch fourth-place for her record breaking ’21′ album, which sits at No. 4 in the Billboard 200 after an astonishing 40-weeks on the chart.

While ‘Mylo Xyloto’ is still a little ways away from reaching the dizzying heights of ’21′, the album did set a new record for the highest first-week album sales on the iTunes store – A milestone previously held by the band’s own 2008 album, ‘Viva La Vida’.

Coldplay also managed to break records while celebrating ‘Mylo Xyloto’s release.

The band put on a live concert at Madrid’s famed bullfighting arena, Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas. The webcast of the concert streamed live to more than 19 Million people worldwide via YouTube, breaking the record for the most streams ever by a single-artist live event on YouTube.

‘Mylo Xyloto’ marks the band’s third consecutive U.S. and U.K. Number 1 album.
