The DC Extended Universe is in desperate need of a win and it finally looks like they might have one on their hand with ‘Aquaman’. Starring the wildly charismatic Jason Momoa, along with a wonderfully deep cast, the film is already receiving a ton of hype from groups around the internet. Perhaps their hype might go to the next level now after Willem Dafoe, who was brought on to play an unnamed character, raved about his experience on set. During a period of time where ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ seems to be having constant troubles on set it seems almost hilarious that DC seems to be in more control.

In order to get a great movie you have to have a rock solid cast, a great script, and someone in charge with a clear path to their vision. Iconic horror director James Wan has been placed in charge of taking care of the ‘Aquaman’ experience and according to the latest word from Willem Dafoe, he is doing one heck of a job. Dafoe said of his experience on set, after wrapping his character, “James Wan’s great. He’s great.” Defoe went on to specify that the nature of the film is incredibly difficult due to the fact that it is largely set underwater and that Wan was able to handle these problems with ease. Dafoe went on to say, “You see it in his films, he’s very detail oriented. He figures the cut. He’s very precise. He’s a real gifted filmmaker.”

James Wan is well known for his work on the ‘Conjuring’ franchise as well as a host of other highly touted horror films. Wan has an iconic vision and he is bordering on the auteur level for his ability to create tension in every scene through music cues and long, drawn out sequences. Wan’s choice to helm the ‘Aquaman’ movie has potential to backfire but it could also turn into an inspired choice by a studio that desperately needs to get a victory on their side.

Willem Dafoe is one of the more prolific actors in the business today and he has never been scared to open up with his opinion about his work. The fact that Dafoe is so glowing about James Wan speaks highly of the fact that we could have something good on our hands with this title. ‘Aquaman’ is set to release on December 21, 2018.
