Just weeks before it’s Blu-Ray/DVD release, fans of this summer’s biggest blockbuster ‘The Avengers’ are being treated to a peak of the film’s alternate opening.

In contrast to the original opening, the new scene focuses in on the disaster after the climax of the story. The camera pans through downtown New York City, with shots of fireman and police helping citizens caught in the apparent crossfire, drawing comparisons to the aftermath of 9/11.

Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) recalls the disaster, citing Nick Fury’s (Samuel L. Jackson) recklessness and the poor planning in uniting the superhero team. The move makes the movie a flash back in a sense, but it’s understandable why director Joss Whedon and the rest of the crew decided to go another direction with the opening, considering the fun nature of the film.

‘The Avengers’ is due for release on Blu-Ray and DVD on September 25, but super-fans will be forgiven for waiting for the exclusive 10-disc limited edition release packaged in the Tesseract case.
