Following a resounding success at the box-office, Sony have confirmed ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ will be the first of a trilogy.
A post on the movie’s official Facebook page read; “It’s finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero’s journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents.”
Director Marc Webb had previously spoken of his hopes for a sequel, however it seems Sony wanted to wait for box-office figures before confirming future plans for the franchise.
Fortunately the movie has lived up to its title, smashing box-office records in the United States, grossing $35 million on its opening night, making it the highest grossing Tuesday movie opening in history.
Sony said in a statement “That is one huge number. Unbelievable start to what should be an exciting six days.”
Evidently Andrew Garfield has triumphed in his portrayal of the much-love superhero leaving fans of the franchise longing for more.
