The Carlo Carlei directed ‘Romeo and Juliet’ film has finally rounded out it’s main and supporting casting roles.

Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nominee Hailee Steinfield, best known for her role in ‘True Grit’, will play the titular role of Juliet. British actor Douglas Booth will play the doomed male lead with fellow Brit and ‘Gossip Girl’ actor Ed Westwick as his pesky friend, Tybalt.

Academy Award winning actress, Holly Hunter will play Juliet’s Nurse, while ‘Vampire Diaries’ leading man, Paul Wesley will play Count Paris.

This newest adaptation of the Shakespeare classic will be the fourth feature film to retell the tale of the two star-crossed lovers.

George Cukar created the first film adaptation in 1936. Director Frank Zeffirelli followed up with his vision in 1968, which was most popular Shakespeare film until the resounding success of Baz Luhrmann‘s modern take on ‘Romeo + Juliet’ in 1996.

Director Baz Luhrmann created a Romeo and Juliet meant for the young generation — placed in modern day setting while staying true to the original script. While it had mixed reviews among it’s wide audience, Luhrmann’s film holds the record for largest revenue for any Shakespeare film.

This is Carlei’s first major American film and as a newcomer I can only hope he finds success in his take on the classic tale.
