‘Men in Black’ is the rare kind of series that we would be totally content with never letting it come to an end. There is something uniquely fascinating about the world of the MiB and the capable hands of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith have been thrilling to watch guide it along. With that being said, it looks like the franchise is trying to reinvent itself and there are rumbles abound that place a major A-List star at the top of the list to lead the way. Who is this star? What’s the future of the series? Let’s take a closer look at some breaking move business news.

While Will Smith has been stepping away from his projects of old, most notably foregoing appearing in the new ‘Independence Day’, the production team for the next ‘Men in Black’ isn’t letting that hold them back. In fact, according to a report by THR — Chris Hemsworth has entered negotiations to take on the leading role in the series reboot/continuation. Hemsworth is most notable for his starring performance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Avenger known as Thor. Hemsworth has branched out quite a way in recent years from his starring role, leading in the war film ’12 Strong’ while cutting his comedic teeth in the rebooted ‘Ghostbusters’ film. Hemsworth has long been lauded for his ability to make the audience laugh and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him land the role.

So, what do we actually know about the MiB film that Hemsworth may or may not be taking on? Unfortunately, there aren’t many details out right now regarding the film. What has been reported is that the film will star a black woman, an older man, and a white lead — with Hemsworth likely filling the last of the three main characters that have been appearing in casting calls around the industry. We’re still not sure if the MiB and ‘Jump Street’ crossover is happening or what the relationship is for that crossover event.

What makes Hemsworth’s negotiations interesting is that the actor had previously been swearing that he’d be taking a prolonged break from acting following his most recent production, ‘Bad Times at the El Royale’. Hemsworth would have to forego that sworn break in order to meet the 2019 production deadline of the new, untitled, ‘Men in Black’ film. So, right now all we can do is wait and see what happens.
