The first trailer for ‘After Earth’ has been unearthed.
Starring father/son duo Will Smith and Jaden Smith, ‘After Earth’ takes place a 1,000 years after humans were forced to abandon Earth after a series of disastrous events.
While passing close to Earth, their spacecraft is hit by an asteroid and plummets to the planet, which is now a jungle of plants and creatures that prey on the human race.
“Everything on this planet has evolved to kill humans,” Will Smith’s character Cypher says to his son, Kitai; explaining the danger now present in what was once humanities home. Cypher is left injured in the crash, so anyone expecting ‘Independence Day’ style heroics will be left disappointed.
However, a passing of the action hero torch occurs as 14-year-old Jaden Smith’s character steps up, taking on much of the battle for survival on his own.
Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the film takes on a cinematic look similar to James Cameron‘s Avatar, with fanciful new creatures adopting humanities once dominant role on Earth.
‘After Earth’ is due to hit theaters in the U.S. on June 7, 2013.
